VEGETATION AND WASTE REMOVED FROM THE PART OF GABROVACKA RIVERBED

Palilula Municipality is very responsible in to protecting the territory of the municipality of possible bad weather, which during last spring, enormous damage brought to Obrenovac and its surrounding. Workers at the Water Management Enterprise "Erozija" cleaned and deepened adapted parts from the riverbed of Gabrovačka river from the bridge near the Skull Tower, upstream to the Faculty of Science. On this occasion, garbage and vegetation was removed from the bed so normal river flow was enabled and possibly in this way was also prevented flooding of the river. The works were visited by Ivica Stojanovic, a member of the Municipal Council and Aleksandar Ždrale, Vice President of Palilula Municipal Assembly. According to the councilors Stojanovic, this is just one of many municipal activities related to the surveillance and monitoring of watercourses and drainage channels in the territory of the municipality. In previous period several projects were realized that had the environmental education of Palilula citizens. We have organized and voluntary action for the river cleaning- said Ivica Stojanovic.

For Niš and environment, the risks from flooding go for "second-class water" or flood waters and streams. Some research that has been worked by Faculty of Civil Engineering in Niš indicate that the greatest danger to Niš represent just Gabrovačka river. This river, in one part, upstream from the bridge at the Faculty of Sciences, is not regulated. The biggest problem of the potential danger of flooding, as it was evaluated by the Water Management Center "Morava" in Nis, represent Suvodolski stream. In Palilula Municipality they estimate in order to make flooding type of rivers be safer has to be performed regulation works, as it was done with Nišava, but for now we do not talk about it. For cleaning these rivers and streams is responsible or City - Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. For this purpose, during the last year has been provided in the city budget about four million, but money is directed to emergency for streambeds that protect certain parts from outflows of streams.
